Metallisation - principles

The products to be metallised can be made of plastics, glass, ceramics and/or metal. Each metallisation aims at adding value to the respective product by:

• Improving the reflective characteristics
• Providing electro-magnetic shielding
• Achieving decorative surface effects

Metals such as Al, Cu, Au, Ag, NiCr are evaporated under a vacuum. These are deposited on the pre-treated (possibly primed) components made of plastic or other materials as a thin or thick film (EMC). The deposited film is protected through a coating lacquer or a polymer (applied in a vacuum by plasma polymerisation) if necessary..
